Khalil Dolatyar

Psychologist

Khalil Dolatyar is a registered psychologist with a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in engineering. He later completed his psychology studies and internship in Australia, leading to his registration as a psychologist.

Khalil has had the privilege of living and working with diverse cultures across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and Africa. These life experiences have fuelled his passion for psychology and psychotherapy. His therapeutic approach is primarily grounded in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), supplemented by other evidence-based interventions, with a focus on effectiveness. He employs a transdiagnostic approach that emphasizes commonalities across various mental health disorders. Central to his practice is the therapeutic alliance, which he builds through empathy, authenticity, a non-judgmental attitude, and empowerment.

Khalil has experience working with individuals across various life stages, from school-aged children to adolescents, young adults, and those in middle and late adulthood. He has treated a wide range of presenting issues, including:

  • Anxiety: worry, panic, fear of social situations, phobias, obsessive-compulsive behaviours, and post-traumatic stress.
  • Mood: sadness, low motivation, hopelessness, lack of interest and pleasure, low self-esteem, or mood swings between high and low.
  • Substance Use Challenges: uncontrolled use of substances despite impairing consequences.
  • Interpersonal Difficulties: Characterized by conflict, boundary problems, stress, emotional distance, and trust issues in various contexts, such as within family relationships, friendships, romantic partnerships, or workplace interactions.
  • Behaviour Management: For conditions such as Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Autism.

Khalil is married, has two young children and he enjoys poetry and literature.
